Now We Are One
Learning Curve reached its first birthday
in January, and we even had a birthday card to prove it!
A lot has happened in this first year and we have seen
numbers grow a lot in that time. From a happy band of
four we have become a happy crowd of fifty-four. However
an increase in numbers does not mean a reduction in
standards and we never forget that every single child,
however young, is an individual with a unique character
and unique needs.

OfSTED Visit
We had our first OfSTED visit in November
and we are pleased to say that it went well and the
inspector was generally very happy with the standard of
care at Learning Curve. Unsurprisingly for a new
setting, there were some minor points to address and we
have dealt with these. A copy of the report is available
to view in the nursery, or on the OfSTED website.
The Year
Ahead
There are several events in the diary for
2005, the first of which, the Acorn afternoon, took
place in January. In addition to parents’ evenings, we
have planned a Sports Day, the Leavers’ Ball and at
least one outing. We hope that parents will support
these as much as they can, given the hectic demands of
work and family life.
Like most one year olds we still have some growing and
learning to do and we still have some mistakes to make.
So thank you to all our parents for supporting us and
please keep on telling us what you think we do well and
what you think we could do better. And thank you to all
our children for being our inspiration and sunshine.
From little acorns do mighty oak trees grow…On the 2nd
February we celebrated the children’s successes with an
Acorn afternoon. Certificates were handed out to every
child in recognition of a recent individual achievement,
and they each took home a book as a prize.

..........Yet Proud |
Considering what short attention span the little ones
have it was wonderful how they all patiently waited
their turn. We are very proud of our children.
And after all the speeches everyone sat down for a
hearty tea.
The Magic
of Music
We are very grateful that Jacqueline cannot quite bear
to tear herself away from Learning Curve. Apart from
helping us when we are short-staffed, she comes in on
Thursdays to do a music session with the children and
this is such a rewarding experience.
The staff hope that Jacqueline might be able to get
Caroline to sing in tune, but that probably needs
intervention of a higher order! But the children all
love Caroline’s story-telling and even brought their
parents along to listen to this one about a bear hunt:

Party!
