Learning Curve Day Nursery

EASTER BONNET PARADE
Tuesday 22nd March was the day the hats came out – big ones, little ones, flowery ones and shiny ones, floppy hats and top hats. Some parents had been very busy indeed, and some of the staff too. Here’s a small selection:

 

 

 

  

 

Busy Working On Our Topics

The children have been busy exploring and investigating through our monthly themes. January Water, February Paper, March Soil, April Eggs. Here is a selection:

Mathematical Development
 Collecting rain water, measuring, pouring and recording the week’s rainfall.
 Counting the words on the page, folding paper and seeing what shapes we can make.
 Weighing different types of soil, measuring the amount of water each type of soil can hold.
 Looking at the shape of eggs and comparing it with other shapes

Creative Development
 Making rain water music & dancing to the sound of rain.
 Making masks and dragons for the Chinese New Year
 Making a collage of a garden
 Looking at egg boxes and designing something with simply using string and egg boxes.

Communication, Language & Literacy
 Reading about rain, looking at pictures of thunder clouds, talking about rain and how it makes us feel , writing the letter w etc
 Reading our favourite books and stories
 Reading and acting out the Enormous Turnip
 “Chicken Licken” was fun to read and act out.

Physical, Social & Emotional Development
 Taking care of each other during our muddy walk
 Taking in turns when flying our planes and allowing each other to play with our planes.
 Helping some of the shy ones when collecting worms.
 Listening to each other when talking about the different ways we use eggs in the home.

Knowledge & Understanding of the World
 Going to the lake and seeing how full it had become with the extra rain.
 Going to the recycling bank with our paper rubbish
 Seeing how worms help us in the garden.
 Looking at our surroundings and seeing if we can see structures that are similar to the shape of an egg
We’re going to the zoo, zoo, zoo…
