Strange Goings on in the Shamba

Why are these people looking so smug? What have they been up to?

A team building exercise - pushing the envelope or what?

A hoe down?

Aha! So this is what they have made!

Bassett Henge!

So what are these people looking at - have they been tangoed?

Aha! Its the unveiling of a new art installation ..."man balancing in large cotton reel"

Well actually it’s the photographer from the local newspaper come to do a story on our new outdoor developments in the Shamba. Shamba is a Swahili word meaning “plot of land or farm”. The Shamba is Learning Curve’s woodland area. This is where the principals of the “Forest School” are put into play. Here the children give their imaginations full rein, playing only with objects they can find in the natural environment: sticks, leaves, grass and stones etc.   And the stone fire circle is just one of the projects completed by the team one fine October Saturday to enhance the children’s outdoor learning experience. In addition to our living willow house and the rope climb, there are two different types of bug habitat, a log corner, a collection frame for tying string and rope and hanging art. The staff have also created a resource shelter where they hang wicker baskets full of different natural materials and there is a large wooded frame which the children can use to display their discoveries and create 3D pictures.
