Phase 2 Complete!
It seems like a lifetime ago that the
builders arrived on site and began digging out the
foundations. Slowly earth movers and cranes gave way to
steel erectors and cladders and finally to plumbers and
electricians and from the mess of the building site the
new building has arisen.

to be done here |

It was on a rainy day back in July that
we all gathered outside in the building site to watch
Harrison, Emma and Sam drop coins into the foundations
(see previous news). Now some four months later we have
a magnificent building that merges seamlessly with the
original.

The
team from Wildman Construction has worked hard to create
a building that not only increases the size of the
original by 100% but that enhances what was already an
eye-catching structure. They have had to overcome some
difficulties on the way, including the collapse of the
company that was making the windows, but in the end have
completed the job on budget and, through careful
landscaping, have left the site looking even better than
it did before. |

Our
young building inspectors congratulate Mr Taylor on a
job well done |
|
We must also give credit to our
architects, Vines and Lipscombe, whose design skills
have created a building that, by repeating the sweeping
curves of the original, looks as if it was built as one
construction process.
The children and the staff are all
thrilled with the new rooms and the extra space and we
are sure that our parents share our pleasure and
excitement in being in our new building at last. |

Construction Design Meeting |

A very important
visitor came on Acorn Day in August. This is the
day when we say farewell to those children going
up to school and reward them for all their hard
work whilst at Learning Curve. This year local
architect, Vivian Vines MBE, came along to
present the prizes and he put on his medal
especially for the occasion.

Nursery Visitors
The
children have lots of special visitors in the nursery
during the year and it is all part of their learning and
development to meet adults from all walks of life.
Recently the topic has been clothes that we wear
and we have had some people in uniforms come to visit.
The
Fire Brigade came over from West Swindon in a lovely red
fire engine and let the children try on their hats and
sit in the cab. |

It’s
a bit big Gillian! |
|
It
was very exciting because the first time they came they
had to rush off to put out a fire. But they came back
again later and spent some time with the twos |

Yes I do own the road, actually! |

I’m
not sure that yellow is my colour |
|
We also
had some nursing staff from the Great Western Hospital
come over and they spent an hour or so with the twos
showing them how to use some medical equipment and apply
vital care. Zara is now an expert on providing vital
first aid to teddy bears and other animals. |

can’t hear a heart beat there Mr Bear |

Pumpkin Day
Ah Halloween you mean! No Pumpkin
Day—it’s quite different. For a start everyone has to
dress up as a pumpkin, and that’s no mean feat:
The threes did it—and by the looks of
it they had cleaned out the local pumpkin outfitters.
The twos did it in style…...even some of
the staff did it. The children cut up a pumpkin and chef
made soup from it and everywhere there were smiley
pumpkin faces.
